Kyoto University Selects EDS Product Lifecycle Management Software For Mechanical Design Automation

Japan's Kyoto University Will Deploy 100 Seats of Solid Edge* to Support its Digital Engineering Learning Environment

PLANO, Texas 25 January 2002 - EDS today announced that the Faculty of Engineering, Kyoto University, one of Japan's leading educational institutions, has selected product lifecycle management (PLM) software from EDS PLM Solutions to support its mechanical design automation curriculum. Kyoto University will deploy 100 seats of Solid Edge*, the leading mid-range mechanical computer-aided design (MCAD) system, within its digital engineering learning environment.

The Faculty of Engineering is completing its vision of a practical design room, appropriately called the "Creativity Room." The Creativity Room will have well integrated solutions for computer-aided design (CAD), computer-aided engineering (CAE), and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM). Solid Edge will be a primary offering within this environment.

Kyoto University had a variety of CAD systems before Solid Edge was selected as the for its 120 junior mechanical engineering students. The students' expectations and interest in mechanical design software systems have been increasing in recent years. As a result, the Faculty of Engineering decided to install a large number of 3D CAD systems to provide opportunities for many students to gain experience and to elevate 3D CAD education as an essential part of a complete digital engineering learning environment. Solid Edge met the stringent requirements set forth by the faculty, and its ease of learning will enable students to quickly become proficient in the use of this technology.
