Cornerstone Technology Announces the Release of Expert Mold Designer(R) (XMD) Version 19.5

WINDSOR, Ontario, CANADA - January 24th 2002 -- Cornerstone Technology announced today the release of Expert Mold Designer (XMD) version 19.5.

Expert Mold Designer is a knowledge-based mold design package that automates the design process based on a predefined rules-based system. "Version 19.5 incorporates many new features and design functionality that will further distance it from the other mold design packages in use today".

XMD version 19.5 introduces Interference Checking. This new feature saves a tremendous amount of time by assisting the user in determining if there are any unsuitable conditions where components or features in the tool design may be interfering or getting close with one and other. After the interference checking standards have been established it can be saved for future use. Many configuration templates can be saved and called upon when needed.

In previous versions, XMD was designed to work solely in inch part files. The moldbase, which it created, was also in inches. Now with 19.5, the user can build a complete metric mold with metric components, plates and holes.

XMD 19.5 is a true hybrid system allowing the insertion of both metric and inch components into the same design. The hybrid-modeling environment is enhanced with the addition of greater solid modeling functionality.

In addition to the fully detailed plan view with built in redundancy checking, functionality has been enhanced with the addition of automatic front and side views. Creating a detail of a plate will now automatically create both the front and side views and show one of each type of component to one of the views.
