KITCHENER, ON - December 5, 2001 - Spicer Corporation, a world leader in developing interoperable document viewing, markup, scanning, and editing software, announces Image a.X 6.3 - powerful ActiveX controls for custom Windows or Web-enabled document visualization solutions.

Image a.X controls combine the flexibility of Microsoft's ActiveX technology with the proven document view, markup, print, and edit capabilities of Spicer Imagenation, giving integrators the ability to create custom viewing solutions for virtually any Windows application. These easy-to-integrate controls are compatible with all Windows platforms including the new Windows XP operating system.

Image a.X enables users to quickly and accurately display and mark up over 150 native file formats including 3D CAD models, 2D CAD, vector, raster, hybrid, and office documents such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.

New native file format support has been added for:

  • AutoCAD 2002;
  • Cadra 11;
  • Gerber RS 274-D and RS 274-X;
  • SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics);
  • Microsoft Office 2000 and 2002 (XP) for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
  • Enhancements to PDF, PS, and RTL support.

In addition, Spicer has enhanced the 3D view control with eight new properties and six new methods, and added new functionality to right-mouse click options such as change attributes, attach hotspot, and a tool option dialog box.

Ten Image a.X controls are currently available including 3D model viewing capabilities for IGES, STL, and VRML file formats. The configuration control, previously available only in beta format, is now officially released.

"With Image a.X controls, systems integrators can quickly create and deploy custom networked or Web-enabled client-side visualization solutions with a look and feel that complements their existing document management environment," said Tony Prilesnik, Image a.X Product Manager. "Image a.X provides an extremely cost effective way to enable visualization capabilities across the enterprise and among business partners without the overhead associated with installing, administrating and upgrading full client software solutions."

As part of Spicer's suite of Enterprise Visualization Solutions, markups created in Image a.X can be viewed in Spicer Imagenation? or ViewCafe(TM) for a high level of interoperability among Spicer products. Moreover, markups made in any Spicer product can be saved and displayed in any other Spicer visualization product.
