Tim York, President of Mapping Solutions, explains that Fire Battalion Chiefs take map drawings and put them on laptops in command vehicles. This way, they can issue orders to firefighters based on what they see on the screens. "Guys can then update the maps back at the station if they need to," York says.

This technology is helping firefighters across the country. Deputy Chief, Terry Scholl, of the Creve Coeur Fire District in St. Louis County states that by using FireBase, he has cut down travel time and increased the accuracy of locating fire hydrants, emergency exits and buildings.

"We have put laptops in all of our emergency vehicles so that when dispatch calls, teams can punch up the location and instantly view the maps," Scholl explains. "One of the most important aspects is that we can add more and more to the maps, all the time. We were unable to do this with any other technology."
