Software to Enable 10,000 to Collaborate in Real Time on Design of Next-Generation JSF

Two Dallas-Area Companies Team Up on Landmark Project

PLANO, Texas and FT. WORTH, Texas - November 8, 2001 - Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) software from EDS will play a key role in helping the Lockheed Martin-led team's effort to develop the new Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) - by serving as the "digital backbone" for the landmark project. The JSF's digital backbone will be provided by Metaphase-brand software from EDS' PLM Solutions line of business. The software will enable the Lockheed Martin-led team's virtual global enterprise - its 10,000 person-strong consortium of BAE Systems, Northrop Grumman and an estimated 27 other partners and suppliers - to create a secure, immediately accessible, web-based environment to collaboratively design, build, test, deploy and track the development of the JSF.

Landmark Project

Awarded to the Lockheed Martin-led team on October 26, the Joint Strike Fighter represents the largest defense contract in U.S. history - potentially an order worth over $200 billion order for next generation, multi-role advanced military fighter aircraft for the U.S. Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps, the U.K. Ministry of Defense and numerous other countries throughout the world. A projected fleet of over 3000 aircraft will be designed and built by a consortium of highly respected, global military aircraft manufacturers, and this fleet is expected to see service well through the 21st century.
