PlanetCAD Announces SCS|Envoy for Cycle Time Reduction in the Manufacturing Supply Chain

Innovative New Product Integrates Engineering Data into Manufacturing Processes

BOULDER, Colo. - October 11 , 2001 - PlanetCAD, Inc. (AMEX: PCD), makers of Cycle Time Reduction software solutions for the manufacturing supply chain, today announced PlanetCAD SCS|Envoy, the first major release by PlanetCAD of its new product line for the manufacturing supply chain.

SCS | Envoy is a first-of-its-kind software program that enables product design and definition data to be integrated into the decision-making processes throughout the manufacturing supply chain. SCS | Envoy provides the tools to automatically, quickly and securely distribute selected product design and specification data to authorized recipients, freeing the participants from extensive manual processes normally required to distribute data. This means that critical product data can be accessed and used simultaneous to supply chain transactions such as requests for quotes (RFQs) and purchase orders. Additionally, SCS | Envoy works with supply-chain functions already in place, allowing supply-chain participants to retain tried-and-tested processes while using more efficient methods.

SCS | Envoy replaces many manual tasks undertaken by design engineers, procurement managers and purchasing staff. These tasks include: translation of 2D and 3D design data, selection and grouping of product information for distribution, download of data onto media such as CDs, shipping and handling of the media, and receipt and download of the data from the shipped media. Often these processes can take days to accomplish, and if the data is corrupted or inaccessible, results in delays while more data is prepared and shipped. SCS | Envoy allows the selected data to be transmitted instantaneously and securely to authorized recipients, while transparently performing processes such as data translation, download and tracking. Additional functionality will be integrated with other supply chain technology recently acquired by PlanetCAD, to provide a much wider solution for supply chain productivity.
