Foundry 2001 International, Birmingham, UK - October 8, 2001 - ESI Group, leading provider of virtual prototyping and manufacturing solutions, today announced at Foundry 2001 International, the release of PAM-CAST 2001, a comprehensive physics-based software package for casting simulation. PAM-CAST 2001 allows users to perform predictive evaluations of the entire casting process, from the filling to the solidification phase. Most complex die designs can be simulated using PAM-CAST's state-of-the-art technology. A technology based on powerful solvers with efficient self-correction features that provides comprehensive realistic outputs with high mesh independence. The fine tuning of solver parameters for high pressure die casting applications brings additional accuracy and delivers more realistic predictions for typical high speed injections and thin walled castings.

Available on Windows NT and Windows 2000, as well as UNIX platforms, PAM-CAST 2001 offers a new user-friendly interface, faster processing, enhanced data exchange with CAD, and more flexibility in the thermal cycling process definition and simulation.

User-Friendly Interface

A new graphical user interface offers, within the same environment, a single integrated solution including model definition, volume meshing, material database, process definition, job submission and post-processing.

Faster Processing

Continuous enhancements of the filling and solidification solvers lead to faster processing and improved parallel performance. Processing time has been reduced by two on typical applications.

Enhanced CAD - Surface Meshing Interface

PAM-CAST 2001 resolves bottleneck often encountered in CAD interfacing and geometry discretization. A new graphical and interactive module has been added to import various CAD file formats, detect and automatically repair topological problems and generate a surface mesh. Computational models are now obtained within shorter lead times compatible with increasing industrial constraints.

Additional Modules

The simulation of lost foam processes is now available as a new and unique specific feature of PAM-CAST 2001. Additional optional modules are available for micro-structural nodular cast iron solidification, aluminum gas micro-porosity predictions, thixocasting process simulation and thermo-mechanical coupling.

Availability

PAM-CAST 2001 is available on Windows NT 4 and Windows 2000 platforms, as well as UNIX workstations from Compaq, HP, IBM, SGI, and SUN.

About ESI Group

Editor of virtual testing solutions, ESI Group is a pioneer and world leading provider of numerical simulation prototypes and manufacturing processes that take into account the physics of materials. ESI Group has developed an entire suite of coherent, industry oriented applications to realistically simulate a product's behavior during testing, to fine tune the manufacturing processes in synergy with the desired product performance, and to evaluate the environment's impact on product usage. ESI Group's product portfolio, which has been industrially validated and combined in multi-trade value chains, represents a unique collaborative, virtual engineering solution, known as the Virtual Try-Out Space (VTOS), enabling a continuous improvement on the virtual prototype. By drastically reducing costs and development lead times, VTOS solutions offer major competitive advantages by progressively eliminating the need for physical prototypes. A publicly held company, ESI Group (Paris Stock Market - Sicovam 6584) employs about 300 high-level specialists worldwide. The company and its global network of agents provide sales and technical support to customers in more than 30 countries.
