PHILADELPHIA, Oct. 3, 2001 - Unveiling a new approach to plant information management, the Process & Building Solutions division of Intergraph Corporation <Nasdaq: INGR> announced Information Handover into Operations and Maintenance and Equipment Datasheet Management best practice templates.

The templates are the first of a series of highly focused solutions designed to solve key business problems for plant owners and engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firms operating in the process industries.

For facility owners, the Information Handover best practice template enables efficient engineering deliverables take-on by reducing cost and risk, increasing data quality and shortening handover schedules. The Equipment Datasheet Management best practice template, for EPCs, provides a system for effectively handling equipment data and improves project quality while reducing costs.

The best practice templates comprise a mix of onsite business and technical consulting, configuration, deployment, training and support services along with the software foundation. All template packages feature a calculated ROI target and defined budget and deployment period. See www.intergraph.com/process/solutions for details.

Intergraph Process & Building Solutions detailed the new solutions today during a press briefing at the PlantSuccess 2001 conference which concludes here tomorrow. The division plans to soon announce additional best practice templates.

Template Approach Addresses Key Business Problems

Each best practice template addresses a specific plant life cycle business problem and is aimed at reducing cost and improving quality by enabling best practice work processes. The solution process includes five basic consulting steps: business justification analysis, information and functional requirements specification, configuration and build, implementation and ongoing support. No code customization is required. The division's Engineering Enterprise Solutions group delivers the tightly integrated, focused services and software on a global basis.

Information Handover Solution Offers Owners 60 Percent Savings With a projected savings of 60 percent on total handover costs, the best practice template for Information Handover enables efficient transfer of accurate as-built design engineering data at project end to the plant owner's systems to support operations and maintenance (O&M). Early in the plant life cycle, the template defines the engineering information and data format required for O&M and is the foundation of a single data source for delivering, storing, managing and sharing as-built deliverables. The Information Handover template shortens time to plant startup, lowers risk, shrinks the volume of standard documentation by about 80 percent and reduces the total volume of as-built data deliverables up to 50 percent.

Handover of information represents a number of problems and significant expense - up to five percent of capital costs - to the plant owner. The best practice template for Information Handover effectively solves problems such as multiple data sources with incompatible formats, redundant data, inconsistent or poor data quality as well as population of O&M systems with accurate, structured and properly formatted data.

Like the other Intergraph best practice templates, Information Handover is scalable. The solution provides substantial cost savings on projects ranging from plant revamps to new developments such as those successfully completed by customers Statoil, Elf Exploration UK PLC and others. The solution is universal and handles data from a variety of Intergraph or non-Intergraph sources.

Equipment Datasheet Solution Saves EPCs Up To 40 Percent

The best practice template for Equipment Datasheet Management provides the mechanism and process for capturing, cleansing, validating, revising and re-using equipment data including design, vendor, operational and related information. With a projected savings of 39 percent, the solution optimizes handling of datasheets, a key communication tool for engineering information, to improve project deliverables and cut handover costs.

The Equipment Datasheet Management template addresses a number of problems for the EPC, including poor communications, unreliable data quality, uncontrolled data ownership, ineffective change management and revision control, inconsistent naming conventions and multiple data sources.

A single datasheet repository consolidates and cleans the equipment information, eliminates duplicate data to ensure consistency and quality and provides 24-hour global access. Security regulates which users can change certain data and revision control tracks the status of changes so that only the most recent and accurate data is used. An audit trail allows users to view previous versions of the data. Equipment datasheets are organized and searched by tag number, and users see the data in a familiar datasheet view based on company standards.

More Best Practice Templates Available Soon

Intergraph Process & Building Solutions plans to soon formally announce availability of additional best practice templates, including Line List Management, Engineering Materials Basis, Construction Status Visualization, Project Document Control and Distribution, Mechanical Integrity Management and others.
