CADCAM-E Delivers Pro/Engineer to Mastercam Translations Over the Web
FARMINGTON HILLS, Michigan - October 1, 2001 - CADCAM-E is now offering Pro/ENGINEER to Mastercam translations over the web, eliminating the need for subcontractors to purchase a Pro/ENGINEER license or conversion software. Users can download the conversion software to their own machine from http://www.cadcam-e.com web site at no charge, then pay only a very reasonable fee for each file that is converted. The pay-per-use approach pioneered by CADCAM-E fits the subcontracting model well because the cost of the translation can usually be charged to the customer's project. The conversion software works within the Mastercam environment and has the same look and feel as Mastercam. The new conversion software is a C-Hook that works inside Mastercam so it can read Pro/ENGINEER files into the Mastercam environment with a single button push. All 3D geometric entities are converted to equivalent Mastercam entities. Pro/ENGINEER solids are imported as Mastercam solids in Mastercam V8.1 and Pro/ENGINEER assemblies are also read into Mastercam. The new software requires Mastercam Version 8.0 as a minimum host environment and does not support Mastercam Version 7.x. It reads Pro/Engineer Part (.prt) files from Version 18, 19, 20, 2000i, 2000i2 and 2001. CADCAM-E's web site delivers interoperability solutions to the user's desktop over the web. The user simply registers for the service, downloads the translation software and installs it on their desktop. Running the conversion application on the desktop provides the fastest conversion speed. In addition to Pro/ENGINEER to Mastercam translations, CADCAM-E also offers conversion solutions between CATIA, Unigraphics, SolidWorks, SolidEdge, Mastercam, Mechanical Desktop, Surfcam and Varimetrix systems and PARASOLID, ACIS, IGES and STEP formats. CADCAM-E also offers a wide range of services targeted at engineering and manufacturing organizations as well as independent software vendors. The company's engineers can economically performtranslations, particularly those involving feature-based solids, that can't be cost-effectively automated. They can also provide legacy data conversion, 3D design and drafting, computer-aided engineering, manufacturability studies, data conversion and distribution to the supply chain and the development of web-based engineering applications. The company also offers licensable components for reading and writing CAD files independent of the CAD systems that created them. These components can be embedded in software packages to provide seamless interoperability with most any CAD system. The company also provides custom programming to customer specifications.
