Rhino 2.0 is Shipping

SEATTLE - September 1, 2001 - Today Robert McNeel & Associates began shipping Rhinoceros (Rhino) 2.0, a new version of their NURBS (non-uniform rational B-spline) modeler for Windows.

The new version is US$895 and upgrades from Rhino 1.0 and 1.1 are US$295. A special introductory price is available until January 15, 2002. New versions are US$795 and upgrades from Rhino 1.1 are free.

Rhino 2.0 is a conceptual design and modeling tool for industrial, product, and scene designers. Rhino brings accurate, free-form curve, surface, and solids modeling to demanding users.

Rhino 2.0 includes many enhancements and refinements including:

• hundreds of new modeling and editing commands, options, and enhancements
• new import and export file formats
• a C++ software developer kit for plug-in applications developers
• VBScript and JScript support
• The Zoo, a workgroup license manager

The main focus of version 2.0 is the ability to add plug-in applications, which add functionality to Rhino. This functionality ranges from a free program that adds very simple selection commands to complicated programs that add rendering, mathematical functions, or even a specialized interface to Rhino.

Flamingo, the first major plug-in, creates stunning, life-like images from your Rhino models. Flamingo uses raytracing and radiosity technologies to create high quality, photo-realistic, still and animation image files from 3-D models inside Rhinoceros.

Rhino 2.0's new and improved import and export types include STEP and VDA import and export with stitching to improve communication with mechanical design, CAM, and analysis programs, GHS export for marine analysis, SLC export for rapid prototyping, and Viewpoint Experience Technology export for 3-D web publishing.
