Delcam's PS-Exchange Completes 20,000 TranslationsOnline Service Now Over 99% Successful
BIRMINGHAM, UK - July 6, 2001 - Delcam is pleased to announce that 20,000 translations of CAD data have now been undertaken using its online data exchange service, PS-Exchange. Furthermore, over the past two months, the service has achieved more than 99% success in data conversion. Less than one per cent of users have claimed refunds for unsuccessful or incomplete translations under Delcam's guarantee scheme. "The addition of the world's first direct translator for PTC's Pro/Engineer 2000i2 software has given a real boost to PS-Exchange," reports Tim Hughes, Delcam's Development Director with responsibility for PS-Exchange. The full range of options for input into PS-Exchange is now CATIA, Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, Unigraphics, Parasolid XT, IGES, VDA and STEP, while files can be exported as IGES, Parasolid XT or as Delcam's own DGK format. Problems with the exchange of data between CAD systems are estimated to cost US industry over $1 billion each year. The time taken to resolve these problems slows down the whole product development cycle and significantly delays the time-to-profit of new designs. "PS-Exchange offers two advantages of over other online translation providers - speed and security," claimed Mr. Hughes. Other services require the CAD model to be sent to the service provider for translation and then returned. With PS-Exchange, the translation software is stored on the user's own computer. To use the service, the user simply obtains a real-time authorisation from Delcam's web server. This approach gives much faster results since transferring a short authorisation code is much quicker and easier than transferring a complex CAD model. Once the authorisation has been obtained, the translation itself should never take more than a few minutes. The service also gives total security. Since the model file stays within the users own computer, there is no chance of sensitive information being intercepted or mailed to an incorrect address. To test PS-Exchange, simply download the software from the Delcam Web Site - http://www.delcam.com - and register your participation.
