SYDNEY - July 6, 2001 - Autodesk (Nasdaq: ADSK) is now shipping the first products in its new AutoCAD 2002 product line, the latest generation of its core design software, including three general design and five industry-specific applications for Architecture/Engineering/Construction (AEC), Manufacturing, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Based on the new AutoCAD 2002 foundation, the new releases extend the power and functionality of AutoCAD software to particular markets with capabilities for solving technical and business problems unique to each industry.

Designed to not only accomplish single tasks faster and more accurately, the new applications also leverage digital design data in an automated process that improves how designers work with customers, colleagues, and suppliers. The new applications are AutoCAD 2002, AutoCAD LT 2002, Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3, AutoCAD Mechanical 6, Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6, Autodesk Map5, Autodesk CAD Overlay 2002, and Autodesk OnSite 2 . The Solutions

The releases were first announced on May 15. Each product's enhancements are centered on tightly integrating Autodesk's proven design capabilities with the distribution powers of the Internet and mobile computing as well as new tools and functionality built in for data integration, collaboration, and data delivery to the point of work.

The new applications also feature an integrated desktop and Internet work environment through Autodesk Point A, a customisable global access website from Autodesk. On Point A, users get seamless access to a wide variety of resources including Autodesk products, up-to-date industry information, newsletters, and a forum to exchange ideas and collaborate with colleagues. Additionally, users can access Point A content directly through Autodesk software, enabling them to save and access their work over the Internet or a mobile device.

Product Details

  • AutoCAD 2002 is the leading general design tool and the foundation for the Autodesk family of applications
  • tools optimised to meet the specific challenges of design workflow in Manufacturing, AEC, and GIS.
  • AutoCAD LT 2002 is the latest two-dimensional CAD software for design professionals. As a cost-effective CAD solution, AutoCAD LT 2002 is ideal for professionals who are members of an extended design team and actively participate in the design process, but require only occasional CAD use.
  • Autodesk Architectural Desktop 3.3 offers architects the flexibility to work in 3D or 2D as a design evolves, benefiting from the efficiencies of the model-based design approach while accommodating traditional work processes. Project collaboration is also enhanced through expanded Internet features, including closer integration with Buzzsaw.com, a collaboration portal for the construction industry, and its online project hosting and printing services.
  • AutoCAD Mechanical 6 is a market leader in the manufacturing industry for 2D mechanical design and drafting.
  • Autodesk Mechanical Desktop 6, delivers a flexible and powerful 3D modelling system renowned for uniting 2D and 3D design, 3D wireframe, 3D surface, and parametric solids modelling.

Mechanical Desktop 6 and AutoCAD Mechanical 6 include new functionality to drive customer productivity and support collaboration with the extended manufacturing team.

  • Autodesk Map 5 delivers specialised functionality for creating, maintaining, and producing maps and geographic data. New features include a direct connection to an Oracle8i Spatial database, streamlined thematic mapping using wizards, an improved user interface, and an enhanced import/export engine and wavelet support: MrSID from Lizard Tech and ECW from ER Mapper.
  • Autodesk OnSite 2 is a mobile design and mapping solution for mobile workers such as utility crews, architects, engineers and construction managers. By delivering digital design and mapping data to the point of work, users can break the limitations and difficulties of working with paper drawings and maps, increase efficiency of business operations, improve customer service, and help ensure accurate, up-to-the minute information.

New Network License Management Capabilities

To maximise the return on investment, today's corporate IT objectives include the close management of software assets. As the frequency of new technologies and services has increased, effectively managing software licenses has become even more important. In AutoCAD 2002, Autodesk is introducing a new network license manager, FLEXlm from GLOBEtrotter Software, to help companies better manage their AutoCAD 2002 platform-based products. In addition to increased reliability and functionality, FLEXlm has the added advantage of being the software industry's distributed licensing technology of choice. FLEXlm is compatible with all AutoCAD 2002 platform-based products with the exception of AutoCAD LT 2002.
