Lochinvar Selects Solid Edge from UGS for Mechanical Computer-Aided Design

Water Heater Manufacturer Cites Software as the Easiest System Available to Migrate from 2D to 3D Solid Modeling

CYPRESS, CA - February 28, 2001 - UGS (NYSE: UGS) today announces that Lochinvar Corp. has selected Solid Edge as its mechanical computer-aided design (CAD) software system to significantly enhance productivity in product development. Lochinvar is implementing 11 licenses of Solid Edge to design its leading line of high-efficiency water heaters, boilers, swimming pool heaters and hot water storage tanks. The Nashville, Tennessee-based manufacturer will replace its previous 2D system with 3D Solid Edge, following an eight-month evaluation of five CAD packages.

"The move to 3D solid modeling will speed up design productivity and enhance drawing accuracy. For example, solid edge's automatic calculations of bend allowances and material deformation will eliminate the errors we had experienced in 2D sheet metal design.

"We needed to bring in the 2D data, while avoiding having to recreate the parts and assemblies from our old system. Solid Edge met that requirement best."

The licenses of solid edge were purchased from Virtual Edge, a solid edge Value Added Reseller headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee and operating in Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama and Mississippi.
