Engineering Geometry Systems (EGS) license MachineWorks and are set to preview the new technology at WESTEC 2001EGS are to preview version 8 of FeatureCAM, featuring MachineWorks the industry leading simulation/verification technology, in March at WESTEC 2001, Los Angeles, USASHEFFIELD, UK - February 15, 2001 - LightWork Design, the worldwide leader in component 3D visualization and simulation software, announced today that the US' based CAM developer, EGS has licensed MachineWorks for its FeatureCAM CAM solution. EGS President, Glenn McMinn, commented, "by using MachineWorks technology in v8, toolpath simulation has been considerably improved across the entire FeatureCAM range. MachineWorks' solid modeling means any 3D simulation can now be paused and instantaneously rotated or scaled. FeatureCAM now can accurately simulate 4th axis milling, tombstone milling or turn/milling where the part is rotating during milling." EGS' move to utilizing a solid modeler allows for a fully realistic turning simulation rather than the previous pixel-based static geometric approximation. Machinists can also use the solid modeling function to define clamps and fixtures, the subsequent simulation then displaying any potential collisions. A further functional improvement is in FeatureMILL3D, where a rapid simulation option now immediately notifies the user of any collisions or gouges instead of taking a long time to run through. FeatureCAM supports turning and 2 & 3 axis milling, and is developed at EGS' headquarters in Salt Lake City, UT, USA. About MachineWorksMachineWorks is LightWork Design's leading CNC simulation and verification toolkit for CAM software developers. It combines unparalleled speed and accuracy with industrial strength robustness and is integrated into the majority of the world's CAM packages. Integrating MachineWorks directly into their applications results in numerous benefits for CAM developers. They shorten their research and development cycle, and get to market faster with a better solution - one that their customers can subsequently rely on to increase productivity and guarantee the quality of their manufacturing output. About LightWork DesignLightWork Design develops and markets world-leading technologies for visualization and simulation. Its products are used in around 150 software applications worldwide. The company has a global customer base that encompasses North America, Europe and Japan.
