Brunei Shell Petroleum Selects ProjectWiseProjectWise Becomes the Project Document Management System for the Ampa-Fairley Rationalisation ProjectMELBOURNE, Australia - 4 February 2000 - Bentley Systems Pty, Ltd., announced that Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP), one of the world's leading producers of petroleum and oil, will use ProjectWise Extranet Solutions for the largest engineering project it has ever undertaken. BSP has implemented 25 licenses of ProjectWise for its most ambitious engineering project. The Ampa-Fairley Rationalisation Project (AFRP) will cost nearly $300 million (USD) by the time it is completed in 2004. AFRP entails a major effort to revitalise the 30-year-old Ampa-Fairley offshore petroleum facilities. It encompasses three full-scale project stages, including the installation of an onshore compression plant, the rationalisation of the entire Ampa-Fairley Offshore facility, and the installation of two major offshore pipelines. BSP anticipates an extended service life of another 30 to 40 years. AFRP is expected to save nearly $20 million (USD) per year in operational costs. The implementation of ProjectWise will entail licenses for 25 to 50 concurrent users, as well as licenses at AFRP contractors/consultants sites, including: OGP Technical Services in Kuala Lumpur, Foxboro in Singapore and Damit-Worley in Brunei. Bentley will customise ProjectWise for the implementation project (AFRP-EIMS), as well as provide all relevant documentation for the AFRP-EIMS, such as user guides and training manuals. ProjectWise is instrumental in the project's execution and in its subsequent hand-over to Operation and Maintenance. The product was selected during an extensive examination of several extranet solutions. ProjectWise most closely met the project's requirements for an extensive, secure and controlled communication connection between BSP project members and third-party sites. A large number of consultants, contractors and vendors are geographically located throughout Brunei Darussalam and Southeast Asia. Upon project completion, ProjectWise will ensure transparent hand-over of data. Data will be in-line with the corporate filing system and database, focusing on the life cycle of information and data. "AFRP has been searching for a suitable system solution to manage the project documents. Without a proper system in place, the transfer process of information will be cumbersome and unmanageable to administer. ProjectWise has bridged this problem of managing the right information at the right time," said Saiful Arief, the Project Custodian for this EDMS project. "The project presents a new way of working for us. We have introduced a secured extranet environment providing direct access to our major consultants across multiple countries, a first for this company, if not the country. For a start, this significantly helps to reduce paper flowing," remarked Mohd Hayazi Arshad, the Project Coordinator and Head of Engineering EDMS/CAD with Brunei Shell Petroleum. AFRP was launched in May, 2000, with a public ceremony attended by Brunei's Minister of Industry and Primary Resources Yang Berhormat Orang Kaya Setia Pahalwan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman, who is also the chairman of the Brunei Oil and Gas Authority. Rahman commented that the project marks another milestone in the drive for sustaining more development of the oil and gas industry. He remarked that the project would bring new life to oil and gas industry in the country. Oil production is Brunei Darussalam's most important economical asset and BSP is by far the leading oil and gas producing company in Brunei.
