Competitors from Around the World Vie for Best Product Design in Alias|WavefrontIBM Competition Winners To be Announced March 19 - Still Time to EnterTORONTO, CANADA -February 2, 2001 - Ideas from professional and student product designers around the world will soon be judged by a jury of internationally recognized design and technology leaders in the upcoming Alias|Wavefront IBM Design Competition. Competitors have until February 19, 2001 to complete their entries. Up to $70,000 USD is expected to be awarded in prizes and cash on March 28 at the Design Exchange in Toronto, including $10,000 in cash to the first place winner. Competitors are challenged to project 5 to 10 years into the future and express their personal vision of interaction with computers, assessing the overall impact of emerging technologies, new forms of interaction, utility and lifestyle changes. The competition is sponsored by Alias|Wavefront and IBM, and endorsed by The International Council of Societies of Industrial Designers (ICSID), Helsinki, Finland. Designs must be created in Alias|Wavefront StudioTools software. According to Wayne Flaggs, vice president, sales and marketing, IBM IntelliStation workstations, IBM's sponsorship of the design competition was an easy choice. "The IBM IntelliStation combined with Alias|Wavefront StudioTools software provides these industrial design competitors with the best platform available today to help them project the computing devices of tomorrow," he said.
