Bentley Advances to Number Two in Plant Creation SoftwareWith Success of Bentley's MicroStation, PlantSpace and Viecon Technology, Daratech Ranks Bentley as Number Two VendorHOUSTON, TX - Daratech Plant - January 30, 2001 - Bentley Systems, Incorporated (Exton, PA) announced today that market-leading growth in plant-related revenues advanced Bentley to the number two plant creation software vendor in Daratech's latest rankings, based on user spending in 2000, in the categories of conceptual design, physical design and overall plant creation. Bentley attributes this advance to the compelling user benefits that result from the integration of its MicroStation and PlantSpace portfolio with its engineering information management (EIM) technology. Daratech also estimates that Bentley's 2001 plant creation revenue growth will again lead the market. The complete market-share tables can be found at http://www.daratechplant.com. The flagship PDS product range of the number-one plant creation vendor, Intergraph Corporation, is also primarily MicroStation-based. Intergraph is Bentley's largest shareholder, and the companies earlier this month announced the completion of Intergraph's $40 million sale to Bentley of its civil engineering, plotting and raster-conversion software businesses. Bentley's Viecon line of EIM servers and clients provide capabilities for information management, integration, and collaboration throughout the most complex engineering, construction and operations (E/C/O) networks. Bentley's engineering information creation products, MicroStation and PlantSpace applications, provide capabilities for creating intelligent 3D facility models. These solutions power the world's largest, mission-critical E/C/O projects. PlantSpace products and 3D technology are producing remarkable results for users. For example, a recent project at BASF Corporation (Mt. Olive, NJ) was the most complex that it has ever performed internally, involving more than 900 process lines, 25,000 piping components and almost 200 pieces of equipment. Designing each line, BASF was able to improve and refine the design with many more iterations than usual, while spending 30% fewer hours per line than the industry norm. The project was constructed on time and on budget. Similarly, Bentley's Viecon and ProjectWise EIM technology provides great advantages for users in the plant market. Bentley Systems Pty, Ltd., has just announced that Brunei Shell Petroleum, one of the world's leading oil producers, will use ProjectWise extranet servers for the largest engineering project it has ever undertaken. The $300 million (USD) project is the revitalization of the Ampa-Fairley offshore petroleum facilities. ProjectWise most closely met the project's requirements for an extensive, secure and controlled communication connection between project participants, located throughout Brunei Darussalam and Southeast Asia. At the Daratech 2001 Plant conference, Bentley also announced that it is collaborating with a consortium of Japanese governmental, academic and plant industry leaders, led by Hitachi, Ltd., to bring the work of Japan's Plant Electronic Commerce (Plant EC) initiative forward into the Plant Working Group of the aecXML organization within the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI). These efforts have resulted in an XML schema for the electronic exchange and communication of plant life-cycle information. The goal is to have these standards adopted as a PlantXML Schema under the Plant Working Group of the aecXML organization within the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI).
