Spicer Corporation integrates a full suite of interoperable document viewing, markup and collaboration capabilities with Axis TechnologiesAxis Technologies to offer Spicer Imagenation, ViewCafe and ActiveX Controls as data access and collaboration components in specialized document management solutions.KITCHENER, ON. - January 15, 2001 - Spicer Corporation, a market leader in developing client - and server - based data visualization technology, is providing interoperable software solutions for document view, markup and collaboration capabilities for the Axis Technologies' Virtual Print Room (ViPeR) and Project Access Software (PAS). Axis Technologies focuses on producing specialized document management software solutions for the AEC and manufacturing industries. PAS utilizes a standard Web browser to give architects and design technicians the means to manage all related project design files and enable clients and subcontractors to access files in a central vault from any location with an Internet connection. Users can collaboratively review documents using Spicer ViewCafe to retrieve documents, view or markup files, and then save markup sessions in the vault for others to review. ViewCafe's Java 2 technology gives PAS users the ability to print documents at full resolution, unlike other viewers that are limited to 72 dpi print output. Spicer's ThinSpeed? and Progressive Vector Streaming technology, combined with Java-2 enabled client-side rendering, further enhances ViewCafe with fast loading, high fidelity document display. ViPeR is customized to meet demanding document storage, retrieval and editing of many different file types incorporated by engineering departments. ViPeR users also have the ability to manage engineering change notices (ECN) and send e-mail notification to individuals or departments affected by changes. Spicer Imagenation provides the powerful viewing and editing functions for ViPeR, enabling users to record comments using markup tools such as shapes, text, annotations, highlight specific areas of documents, or edit sections of the drawing. Spicer ActiveX controls provide preview thumbnails of drawings prior to displaying them. "Spicer products integrate seamlessly with both ViPeR and PAS while providing a high level of easy-to-use functionality for our clients," said George Bower, president of Axis Technologies. "Our clients realize significant cost savings and efficiencies by utilizing PAS and ViPeR software, and gain additional benefits due to the interoperability among the Spicer family of products." All Spicer visualization products, ViewCafe, Imagenation and ActiveX controls view nearly 150 different file formats including CAD, vector, raster, hybrid and office formats such as Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF. Moreover, the original documents are never altered since changes are stored on secure layers. Interoperable functionality among Spicer products gives users the ability to create and view markups in any Spicer application. "We are extremely pleased to be the exclusive supplier of document viewing, markup and collaboration software for Axis Technologies," said Steve Coutts, vice-president of sales and marketing for Spicer. "We believe that companies such as Axis Technologies represent the future of collaborative document management by providing solutions that enable businesses to share critical information quickly and efficiently with employees and all members of the extended enterprise."
