Spicer ViewCafe to provide Web-based view, markup and collaboration capabilities for CMstat online configuration management systemCMwebStat users to benefit from ViewCafe's zero-client administration and superior Java-2 powered functionality and performance.KITCHENER, ON - January 9, 2001 - Spicer Corporation, developer of leading server- and client-based viewing, markup and collaboration software, is pleased to announce the integration of ViewCafe's powerful Java-2 enabled functions into CMwebStat, a Web-based product configuration management system created by CMstat Corporation, the pioneer in automated change management and configuration control industry. CMstat manages and synchronizes complex product data and processes with the design, manufacturing and maintenance of products and product structures. CMstat solutions are used by such industries as aerospace, defense and complex electronic industries, which include companies such as Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon and others. CMwebStat is designed to instantly give managers, and those involved in designing, building, and supporting a product or system, the most timely, accurate and useful information from one common interface. Using ViewCafe through a standard Web browser, such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, CMwebStat users can find a parts list, view/redline/or markup a drawing or document, initiate a change request, perform a change impact assessment and make on-the-fly status reports. ViewCafe's ability to view nearly 150 file formats including CAD, vector, raster, hybrid and office documents such as Microsoft Word and Adobe PDF will give CMwebStat users access to virtually all CMstat metadata and documents stored in the CMvault. Moreover, users will benefit from intuitive tools specifically designed for ease of use and simple collaborative document review, redline and markup. "Spicer ViewCafe provides us with a zero-maintenance, low-cost solution for image viewing on the client's machine without sacrificing performance or functionality for the image formats most commonly utilized by our customers," said Vance Duncan, senior vice-president and chief technology officer for CMstat Corporation. ViewCafe's Java 2 technology adds even greater benefits for CMwebStat users with the ability to perform accurate full resolution printing and add ISO-compliant print banners to documents. In addition ViewCafe renders documents on the client's machine thereby reducing network traffic and is capable of caching the Java applet on the client's machine, eliminating the need to download the applet from the server when ViewCafe is started. Tom Tesmer, executive vice-president and general manager for CMstat, said that ViewCafe will provide cost reductions in two ways for users - direct savings by reducing deployment time and administration costs that arise from client installations, and indirect savings by enabling users to quickly learn and leverage the cost-saving functionality of ViewCafe's view, markup and collaboration capabilities. "CMstat is a leader and an innovator in configuration and product lifecycle management," said Steve Coutts, vice-president of sales and marketing for Spicer. "We are extremely pleased to be a part of the CMwebStat configuration management solution and streamlining the process for the successful development and performance of highly technical products."
