Pro/E and CATIA to STEP Translations Over the Web $1 per Part Until Jan 15

FARMINGTON HILLS, Michigan - January 2, 2001 - CADCAM-E.COM, the only website that delivers interoperability solutions to the user's desktop, has announced that its new Pro/ENGINEER and CATIA to STEP translation service will be available for only $1 per part conversion until January 15, 2001. This new service will make it possible for anyone to download powerful software and perform conversions on their desktop without purchasing software or having to upload confidential data to a third party. After January 15, users can download the software free and pay only $150 per conversion, an approach that makes it possible to pass the cost onto an external or internal customer.

The new translation service enables accurate and convenient CAD data transfer between Pro/ENGINEER and CATIA and all systems that support STEP. STEP/CAT converts CATIA V3.x and V4.x.x Export and Model files into STEP AP203 compatible files. STEP/PRO converts Pro/ENGINEER V18, 19 and 2000i (*.prt) files into STEP AP203 compatible files. Both translators convert all 3D geometry entities which are mapped to equivalent STEP entities. Pro/ENGINEER solids and CATIA Exact solids are mapped to STEP Manifold_Solid_Brep entities. Translation filters are provided so that only required data is translated. A unique feature of both products is that Pro/ENGINEER and CATIA licenses are not required for the translation

STEP (Standard for the Exchange of Product Data) is a family of ISO standards designed to exchange intelligent product data between applications rather than just drawings. The STEP protocol does a much better job of exchanging solid geometry than IGES and also provides the ability to digitally express other useful information through a product's life cycle including analysis, manufacturing and support data. In short, IGES transmits drawings while STEP provides complete product models. The STEP standards are organized into Application Protocols (APs), unique sets of entities chosen for a specific product, process or industry. AP203 is designed for mechanical engineering.

• CIMSE-Cat is a direct CATIA to SolidEdge translator that runs within the SolidEdge environment and is independent of CATIA.
• IGES/CAT is a proven, highly efficient, bi-directional, host independent, direct translator that converts native V3x and V4x CATIA data files into IGES 5.1 compatible files and vice versa.
• CIMSW-Cat allows SolidWorks users to work directly with CATIA data using "one button" translation, the result being data directly usable in the SolidWorks modeling session.

CIMMC-Pro and CIMMC-UG can cut down the time to generate tool paths from Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics data respectively, by eliminating time-consuming iterations between design and manufacturing due to lack of accurate and reliable data exchange. Both translators are C-hooks integrated into the Mastercam menu and provide seamless data exchange from Pro/ENGINEER and Unigraphics into Mastercam.
