Spicer Corporation brings Web-based viewing and Java 2 to Redladder.comRedladder members will enjoy substantial increase in services and significant savings in time and moneyKITCHENER, ON, August 10, 2000 - Bringing the superior functionality of Java 2 technology to web-based viewing, Spicer Corporation is pleased to announce the addition of ViewCafe 1.1 to Redladder.com, the construction industry's leading vertical portal. The integration of ViewCafe by Redladder into its BlueReview service will enable its members to upload, host and view posted plans for construction jobs online rather than having to travel to contractors' offices or waiting for plans to be shipped to them. This new technology is expected to provide significant savings in time and money for developers, architects, engineers, contractors, subcontractors and suppliers. BlueReview simplifies and streamlines the bid process by letting contractors post blueprints and bid packages online and then send out invitations to bid to their select list of subcontractors and suppliers. "Our alliance with Spicer gives our members the ultimate online project plan viewing tool by enabling them, for a monthly fee, to post and view project plans in project teams from any desktop location, 24 hours a day, seven days a week," said Steve Peletz, president and CEO of Redladder. "General contractors, owners or developers can now purchase BlueReview -- our online project plan hosting service, which enables their bidding subcontractors and suppliers to view plans, specifications, and bid packages entirely online." ViewCafe gives Redladder members zero client-side administration meaning that they have the ability to view drawings over the Internet without having to install any software on their own computers. Designed with the user in mind, it features simple and intuitive tools that anyone can understand and use without any special training. Familiar navigation tools such as drop-down menus, button bars, magnify, reduce, zoom to fit, pan and paging tools add to ViewCafe's ease of use. "Incorporating the new Java 2 technology has not only enabled us to provide significant advantages over other thin client viewers, it also positions our customers for painless growth in the future as the Java language continues to evolve," said Shamir Somani, product manager for ViewCafe. "Moreover, ViewCafe is capable of full resolution printing, ISO-compliant print bannering, and since it is fully scaleable, Redladder can easily accommodate increases in membership and usage. In addition, ViewCafe's ThinSet API technology coupled with Spicer's ThinSocket classes let Redladder have total control over which functions they want to offer to their users; such as ViewCafe's markup and drawing capabilities." Such features were critical factors in selecting Spicer to supply the viewing technology for BlueReview, said Geoff Elmore, Business Development Manager at Redladder. "Spicer's foresight in creating ViewCafe with new Java 2 technology, the customizable product interface, and the flexible pricing model allows us to provide our customers with a solid viewing solution at an affordable cost." The addition of ViewCafe dramatically enhances Redladder's suite of Web-based services for over 10,000 members and over 140,000 subcontractors, suppliers and service providers currently using its bidding, estimating and online procurement solutions. Elmore said he expects over half of the current members to be using BlueReview within the next two years. "We're very pleased to enter into this agreement with a leading provider of online bidding, estimating and project management tools for the construction industry," said Steve Coutts, vice-president of sales and marketing for Spicer. "We anticipate that partnerships such as this one will dramatically change the way that the construction industry conducts business. Critical decisions can now be made without having to gather everyone in the same room. Even if team members are traveling, ViewCafe and the Internet enable everyone to collaborate and be involved in the decision-making process."
