Dennis Eagle Standardizes on Solid Edge from Unigraphics Solutions for Mechanical CAD

Leading Vehicle Manufacturer Migrates from 2-D to 3-D Solid Modeling with 30 Licenses of Award-Winning Software

ST. LOUIS, MO - August 15, 2000 - Unigraphics Solutions Inc. (NYSE: UGS) today announces that Dennis Eagle, a leading vehicle manufacturer in the United Kingdom, has standardized on Solid Edge for all of its future mechanical design engineering needs.

Dennis Eagle, the UK's leading manufacturer of refuse-collection vehicles and chassis for other municipal and specialist vehicle applications, has installed 30 seats of Solid Edge to replace its former 2-D drafting system. The software will run on fully networked Dell hardware. Valued at $300,000 (U.S.), the contract includes a range of training, implementation and support services, including systems integration, database design, network design and legacy data integration. As a result, Dennis Eagle's existing 2-D drawing files can be imported into Solid Edge for use in future vehicle designs carried out in 3-D.

"It was essential for our future design productivity requirements that we move from a purely 2-D drafting system, which helped us to produce drawings, to an integrated 3-D solid modeling system that allows our designers and engineers to design and work in a 'virtual' assembly environment," says Mark Crandon, CAD system selection team leader at Dennis Eagle. Shorter design times

By enabling the 30 plus design engineers based at Dennis Eagle's design office in Warwick to work collaboratively on development projects, the new CAD system will help the company shorten the overall product development process. Critical to this are the software's powerful assembly modeling features, which enable the fit and function of components within an assembly to be proven before anything is manufactured. The software also directly interfaces to finite element analysis (FEA) and other analysis software. Together, these capabilities help to ensure that designs are right the first time. In addition, the ability of Solid Edge to communicate over the network with Dennis Eagle's existing Microsoft Office applications now allows design information to be readily distributed within the company and incorporated into spread-sheet, word processing and database applications for use in purchasing and in the production of proposals, presentations and user documentation.
