IBM's CATIA Heat Program Milestone100 Universities Enrolled in the CATIA Heat Program Tuesday, August
08, 2000 -- IBM today announced that the CATIA Higher Education and Training (HEAT) program has enrolled its 100th university. In less than three years, the HEAT program has been established in 32 states across the United States with additional colleges in Canada and Puerto Rico.
The IBM CATIA HEAT Program was designed to help colleges and universities build a state-of-the-art CAD/CAM/CAE curriculum. The program offers schools training materials, technical support, an unlimited number of software licenses, computer-based training and hardware discounts.
CATIA Solutions, developed by Dassault Systemes, marketed, sold and supported worldwide by IBM, is one of the world's leading systems for computer-aided design and manufacturing. It enables companies of all sizes in a wide array of industries to significantly reduce development cycle time and cut costs by working in a computerized, paperless environment. With CATIA, users can create and test computer-generated prototypes and share this information with their colleagues.
In total, IBM has licensed over 2,600 CATIA seats to schools throughout North America and an estimated 5,000 students have enrolled in the HEAT program. Students can choose to learn a variety of CATIA modules including, 3D solid modeling, complex shape engineering, finite element analysis, assembly design, numerical control programming and rapid prototyping.
"We want to provide our students with the tools they will need to find gainful employment once they graduate. The CATIA HEAT program is allowing us to provide our students with the knowledge that will help them excel in the field of computer-aided design and engineering," said Dr. Richard P. Donovan, Assistant Professor, Montana Tech of the University of Montana.
"CATIA software will be used in our aircraft and spacecraft design labs and is a vital tool in allowing our students to develop new ideas and utilize modern engineering tools," said Jin Tso, Professor and Chair, Aerospace Engineering, California Polytechnic State University.
"If it were not for IBM's HEAT program, WMU could not have afforded our students this opportunity," said Dr. Michael Atkins, chairman of Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering at Western Michigan University's College of Engineering and Applied Sciences.
