Intercad announces 3Dlabs Embedded Graphics Program

Program promotes deployment of 3Dlabs silicon in embedded and non-PC applications; close partnership with Seaweed Systems for real-time 2D and 3D OpenGL drivers

FRENCHS FOREST, NSW - 27 July, 2000 - Intercad Pty Ltd ANZ announced today the launch of 3Dlabs' Embedded Graphics Program to further promote and support the use of its graphics processors in a growing range of embedded and non-PC applications. A key element of this program is an ongoing close collaboration with Seaweed Systems, a specialist supplier of real-time graphics drivers. Seaweed is shipping off-the-shelf, real-time X Windows and OpenGL drivers, fully accelerated on a wide range of 3Dlabs graphics silicon which supports Wind River's VxWorks real-time operating system (RTOS).

3Dlabs has traditionally supplied its powerful and flexible graphics processors to a number of government and professional equipment manufacturers building embedded graphics systems such as aircraft cockpit displays and video effects processors. The Embedded Graphics Program will promote the further use of 3Dlabs silicon in these traditional markets, and also into a growing number of low-cost embedded applications, by enhancing the level of support provided by 3Dlabs to the embedded graphics community.

Customers working to integrate advanced 2D and 3D graphics into embedded applications can now enroll in 3Dlabs Embedded Graphics Program for an annual support fee. Membership in the program ensures access to chip design documentation, detailed hardware design assistance, hardware design reviews and ongoing software support. 3Dlabs has expanded its specialist technical support staff to support this new program and each member company is assigned to a member of the support team for consistent long-term liaison. Seaweed Systems Inc., based in Seattle, WA, is a producer of COTS (Commercial Off-The-Shelf) OpenGL and X Window graphics drivers and system drivers for the RTOS (Real Time Operating System) market. As part of Wind River's WindLink(tm) Partner Program, Seaweed is offering a port of 3Dlabs' full OpenGL ICD driver to the VxWorks real-time environment. Through working closely with 3Dlabs, Seaweed provides both off-the shelf real-time software solutions and custom driver enhancements using 3Dlabs chipsets.

The combination of Seaweed's real-time software and 3Dlabs graphics silicon has already been proven in a wide range of mission-critical applications by customers such as Barco, British Aerospace, Dy4, Kaiser Electronics, Radstone and the U-2 spy plane in-cockpit display developed by Lockheed Martin/Skunkworks in Los Angeles, CA.
