Cascade Microtech Selects Solidworks Software as Standard for Design and CollaborationLeader in Advanced Microelectronics Probing Solutions Implements 3D CAD Software and PDM Solution CONCORD, Mass. - July 24, 2000 - SolidWorks Corporation, a leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream market, today announced that Cascade Microtech, Inc., has selected SolidWorks as its company-wide engineering standard. Cascade has also chosen PDM/Works* 2000 from DesignSource Technology, a SolidWorks Gold Partner Product, as its standard product data management solution. Cascade will use SolidWorks and PDM/Works to design and manufacture its complete line of microelectronic probing solutions for the semiconductor industry. Headquartered in Beaverton, Oregon, Cascade Microtech is recognized as the leader in advanced microelectronics probing solutions. With more than 30 patents, Cascade's technology delivers essential functionality for semiconductor wafer testing, including probe stations, probe cards, accessories and software. Its wafer probing systems allow semiconductor manufacturers to test and characterize their integrated circuit (IC) designs on-wafer. These ICs are then incorporated into products such as cellular phones, laptop computers, dashboard electronics and satellites. Cascade chose SolidWorks as its standard design solution because of its intuitive interface, ease-of-use, affordability and interference checking capabilities. "SolidWorks has helped us reduce our design time dramatically," said Thaine Allison, engineering manager for Cascade Microtech. "With SolidWorks' interference checking capabilities, we're able to see any design errors before they ever reach the production floor. We're able to devote more time to enhancing our products because we reduce the time we spend fixing design flaws." Allison continued, "We're also standardizing on PDM/Works for our product data management needs. It runs right inside SolidWorks so it's easy to use. It has a short learning curve which means we're able to use its automated revision control, concurrent engineering and collaboration features in no time at all." "We are pleased to have an industry leaders such as Cascade Microtech standardizing on SolidWorks," said John McEleney, vice president of the Americas for SolidWorks. "Cascade's selection of SolidWorks is a great example of the confidence companies around the world place in SolidWorks design solutions. " In addition to choosing SolidWorks, Cascade purchased FeatureWorks(tm), SolidWorks' feature-recognition software, to aid in importing legacy data. The company is using SolidWorks Animator to create AVI files from SolidWorks parts and assemblies, allowing it to communicate design concepts and collaborate more effectively. Cascade is also using Dynamic Designer/Motion from Mechanical Dynamics, Inc., to study the behavior of its complex assemblies in motion. Cascade Microtech is working with SolidWorks' regional reseller, CAE Northwest, for software solutions, implementation, training and support. About Cascade Microtech, Inc. Cascade Microtech, Inc., based in Beaverton, Oregon, delivers essential technology for semiconductor wafer testing, including probe stations, probe cards, accessories and software. Cascade is the world leader in providing probing systems and solutions to semiconductor R&D labs. Founded in 1983, Cascade had 1999 revenues in excess of $50 million.
