Intercad Introduces Feature-Based Converter for Autodesk Mechanical Desktop FilesAllows Users to Migrate From Legacy Systems to Leading Mainstream Modeler FRENCHS FOREST - July 17, 2000 - Intercad, the leading provider of affordable, easy-to-use 3D CAD software for the mainstream market, today announced the availability of a feature-based converter for files created using Mechanical Desktop 4.0. The conversion utility provides direct translation of files created with Autodesk Mechanical Desktop into the SolidWorks solid modeling software environment, complete with feature information. Previously, users migrating from Mechanical Desktop had to export data to a neutral file format and import the data. "The Mechanical Desktop Converter makes the transition to SolidWorks easier", notes Paul Ganz Managing Director of Intercad. "Worldwide, well over 20,000 AutoCAD and Mechanical Desktop users have made the decision to migrate to SolidWorks. They consistently tell us that the transfer of legacy data into a new program is an important factor in the process of choosing a new CAD program. As a corporation or an institution is making a significant investment in a new product, we do whatever we can to ease their transition to get into production more quickly." adds John McEleney, vice president of the Americas at SolidWorks. The Mechanical Desktop Converter enables users to transfer feature information from files that were originally designed in Mechanical Desktop into the SolidWorks environment. This new capability complements SolidWorks existing data translation capabilities including the ability to open drawing files native to AutoCAD or Mechanical Desktop. Availability and Pricing The Mechanical Desktop Converter is a free plug-in to SolidWorks 2000. It is available immediately at no charge to SolidWorks Subscription Service customers. Current SolidWorks Subscription Service customers can download the Mechanical Desktop Converter service pack from the SolidWorks web site at www.solidworks.com/support.
