CATIA Solutions Version 4 Release 2.3 Improves Process Coverage Throughout the Extended EnterpriseParis, France, 11 July 2000 - IBM and Dassault Systemes announced today the immediate availability of CATIA Solutions Version 4 Release 2.3 (V4R2.3) for improved process coverage in product design and manufacturing and improved customer competitiveness and productivity. This new release of the world's leading CAD/CAM/CAE software provides users with more than 200 productivity-enhancing product improvements. CATIA V4R2.3 also offers seamless integration with ENOVIA Portfolio 2, a set of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) solutions from IBM that support e-business throughout the extended enterprise. In addition, new capabilities in CATIA V4R2.3 make it easy for users to integrate CATIA Version 5 supplemental functions with their current processes, and to preserve their Version 4 legacy data during their future transition to CATIA Version 5. Ted Krehbiel, tool engineering manager, Cessna Aircraft commented "CATIA and the CATIA Manufacturing Products offer Cessna the best aircraft design and manufacturing solution on the market today. The integration of solids machining and design solids give a single source solution without conversions, translations or geometry creation. The high speed machining solutions and the automated roughing routines provide the capability to create fast, simple, and efficient milling programs. In addition, the Mold and Die machining process files offer the flexible automation we have been looking for in a programming tool. The CATIA Manufacturing products offer the best solution for the NC programming requirements of the Cessna Aircraft company." Said Cosme de Moucheron, vice president, IBM Product Lifecycle Management, "CATIA Version 4 Release 2.3 demonstrates the IBM's commitment to provide all CATIA customers with the best e-business solutions for product development. Our latest enhancements to Version 4, especially the improved integration with ENOVIA Portfolio 2 solutions, gives users a set of tools for Product Lifecycle Management unmatched in the industry and supports engineering communication and process integration for all industries." Said Pierre Moreau, director of marketing, Dassault Systemes, "CATIA Version 4 has the richest portfolio on the market for digital product definition, from design to manufacturing. The 200 improvements made to Release 2.3 confirms our leadership, with enhanced coverage and productivity from general processes to the most specialized." Tailored especially for end-to-end processes in the aerospace, automotive, plant, and shipbuilding industries, CATIA V4R2.3 features advanced modeling, manufacturing, electrical and composite support, 3D Tolerancing management and visualization. Enhancements to CATIA's Wire Bundling product help improve user harness processes. Finite Element Analysis, used widely in the aerospace and automotive industries, now supports the analysis of composite parts at both the predimensioning and the certification stages. CATIA V4R2.3 products designed specifically for automotive industry users include improved core modeling functions (solid trim, fillet and draft features) for complex powertrain part design, and enhanced 2D/3D integration on large powertrain models and assemblies. To support Body-in-White detailing processes, V4R2.3 includes generative shape modeling integrated with multi-edge filleting and extended associated wireframe. CATIA Version 4 Release 2.3 gives users the tools to integrate specific processes-from early product definition to manufacturing-to enable complete product synthesis in a digital mock-up context. When integrated with ENOVIAVPM, CATIA V4R2.3 supports multimodel link. In plant design, this multimodel connectivity helps ensure optimal design for duct routing, conduit and conveyor design, with enhanced propagation of design changes.
