LISP on the WebIntelliCAD supports an inbuilt version of LISP that is especially suitable for user-automated design and drafting tasks.LISP was made popular in CAD with Autodesk's implementation of AutoLISP. LISP is easy to learn and easy to use. The power of LISP is quite phenomenal and many users have developed significant commercial applications with LISP. There are also many, many users without commercial aspirations who have written or adapted custom software tools to improve their productivity with CAD beyond what is possible "out-of-the-box". IntelliCAD's LISP is highly compatible with AutoLISP and most AutoLISP applications will work in IntelliCAD. The exceptions are AutoLISP applications that call unsupported functions or utilize commands that are other unsupported in IntelliCAD. (See the DD's LISP Compatibility Guide). In the decade or so that AutoLISP thas been available for technical professionals, thousands of programs have been created and made available as freeware or sharware. This means that while copyright is retained by the original authors, the software is made available via broad user-supported distribution systems (i.e the Web) and licensing fees are levied on an honor system in the case of shareware, or not at all in the case of freeware. Most freeware is provided in source code format, which means that it can be modified to tailor it more closely to a user's needs. AutoLISP is sometimes "protected" with special encryption tools. Developers protect their files in this way to keep their intellectual property secret and retain the value of their programs as a commercial product. Protected AutoLISP will work with IntelliCAD. The only difference is you cannot edit or read the program files. Where Do You Get It?There are many ready sources of suitable LISP for lntelliCAD. Check out this selection. One or two useful routines from one of these sites will repay the effort browsing them many times over.
If you know of any other great LISP sites, please submit the URLs to webmaster with a suitable note.
