Fly-over snapping

Fly-over snapping is a visual aid, to help you see and use entity snaps more efficiently. With fly-over snapping enabled tooltip icons display the most appropriate type of osnap mode applicable to the cursor location. the modes changes dynamically as you move the cursor to different parts of the drawing. This only occurs when you are being prompted for a point entry.

It's difficult to explain, but an extremely useful feature. Why not experiment for yourself. Follow the steps below to toggle fly-over snapping on and have a play.

Fly-over snapping includes the following elements:

  • Enable fly-over snapping: enable/disable the fly-over snapping.
  • Display tooltips: Identify the entity snap type at the entity snap location below the cursor.
  • Display marker: displays a colored marker around the point that is currently snapped. You can customize the Color, Size and Thickness of the marker.
  • Display snap aperture box: displays a square box around the crosshairs, which determines the area of the drawing that is searched for entities when you use an entity snap.
  • Draw snap marker in all views: displays the colored marker around the snapped point in all open views.

Setting the Fly-over snap options

To open the Fly-over options window do one of the following:

  • Choose Options from the Too l s menu and select the Snapping tab on the Options dialog window.

  • Choose Drawing Settings from the Settings menu and select the Coordinate Input tab page. Then choose Entity Snaps from the Change Settings for combo box and click the Fly-over button.
  • On t he Status bar, right click the Esnap field and choose Settings from the context menu, then click the Fly-over button.

Use the TAB key to toggle between the various valid snap points on entities covered by the snap aperture box.

Click OK to finalize your settings and test out Fly-over snapping in your drawing.
