Where paper drawings are scanned, producing raster or bitmap images, which are then converted into a vector format suitable for use in a CAD program. Raster to vector programs may be intelligent enough to recognize and convert geometric objects (e.g. circles, closed outlines, common symbols) and even text into the appropriate CAD entities during output.
