DreamHouse 3DTony ZillesDrawing walls, placing windows and doors, stairs and any kind of building element in DreamHouse 3D is incredibly easy. Drawing is done in a plan view. At any time you can change to 3D view to see how the building is progressing.
DreamHouse provides a good range of elements to choose from in creating your virtual dream home, just as in real life. The selections are logically categorised, allowing you to select wall type and thickness, various window and door types and sizes. To place windows and doors you just drag the element on to the wall of your choice and click at the placement point.
As well as using the library elements provided, you can add your own elements to the database by customising an existing item. All the library elements are described in imperial dimensions although when working on a metric plan they are inserted at about the right size. There is a strong American bias in the building materials and no provision to add additional materials.
DreamHouse can add a hip or gable roof to your plan in a flash. This program gives a 90MHz Pentium a good workout and more grunt is desirable if youre in a hurry. Ease of use is offset against flexibility. Ceiling heights are fixed as are window sill heights. It can be difficult to get internal walls to align with external walls as they would align when built. DreamHouse is a very fast way to create a building shell, furnish it and get an idea of how some ideas might look in 3D. It also keeps track of your materials and quantities can produce a materials list any time.
